Pat Cantin and Acid_Boy
Pat Cantin's subject matter is abstract, semi-figurative, or "anti-portraiture." The artist works with oil, spray paint, and acrylic in each of her canvases. Each medium brings a different essence to the work and allows her to further express her art.
"I paint directly with my hands on the canvas. I like to feel the material slide between my fingers to sculpt it later, as I wish. Using a tool like a brush or a spatula doesn't allow me to have total control over my gesture."
The challenge is to feel the character's emotion in ways other than just facial features or direct expression. The viewer must look elsewhere in the work to find their usual reference points. The interpretation of the portrait is perceived very differently from one person to another.
